In this 8-minute video, Ben Witherington III, Professor of Biblical Interpretation at Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky, talks to Simon Smart from the Centre for Public Christianity in Australia about the revolutionary nature of Jesus’ and Paul’s treatment of women.

Here are two quotations taken from the video:

“Jesus is the first person in early Judaism to have female disciples, much less travelling female disciples.”

[Christianity was ridiculed by some Romans as] “a religion of women, slaves and minors in that children and women and slaves saw an opportunity for more equality and more freedom and more redemption than they were going to get in some other kind of context, and they went for it.”
