The New Living Translation (NLT) gives the impression of being supportive of Christian women because it has frequently translated adelphoi into “brothers and sisters.” However, the NLT also promotes male authority through some carefully chosen words, some of which are inaccurate and misleading.

Out of the almost 100 theologians and scholars who contributed to the ESV Study Bible not one of them was a woman. Not one! They were all men! Couldn’t they have included even one qualified woman scholar who has something worthwhile to contribute?

Do the qualifications for church leaders (i.e. overseers) in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 apply only to men? Do these verses exclude women from church leadership?
